Presented in partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Western University and in connection with Tropi-X: Brazilian Art in Canada, 1970s – Now, The Blue Trail offers a bold and visually stunning film by Brazilian director Gabriel Mascaro that highlights the evolving expressions of Brazilian culture, cinematic identity and resilience. 

About the Film:
The Blue Trail (O Ultimo Azul) is a 2025 dystopian drama by Brazilian filmmaker Gabriel Mascaro, set in a near-future Brazil where the government relocates its elderly population to remote colonies in the name of economic productivity. Seventy-seven year old Tereza refuses to comply and embarks on a journey through the Amazon as an act of freedom and resilience.

This film won the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize at the Berlin International Film Festival and has a 100% review on Rotten Tomatoes.
